July 27-31, Edible Plants of the Expedition. Learn about some of the plants observed by the expedition in this area and how those plants are used today.

Aug 1-2, Navigating Nature. Take on the role of a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition sent on a journey to document the landscape, plants, and animals of the area while learning the basics of navigation. You will be equipped with a clipboard, field journal, field map, compass, and pencils. Conclude your work by sending your findings to the president as the men of the expedition did before departing Fort Mandan.

Aug 3-7, Lost in Translation: The Interpreter’s Game. Learn how complicated communication was for the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Aug 8-9, Candle Making. Craft a keepsake to spark your love of history.

Aug 29-30, Ice Water Challenge. Being a fur trader puts you in extreme situations. How long can you last?

The Gospel PraiSing Festival 2026 will be held on the Capitol grounds in Bismarck, from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 3.  Special guest artist is Natalie Layne, pianist, singer/songwriter and worship leader.  There will be more music throughout the day from Braveheart Band, Sister Seven, Jacob Rocky, GPS Ministries, Beer & Hymns-ND, One Dei, and Dan Weigel & Friends.  Food Vendors will be on site.  It is a free event, but free-will offerings will go to support Heavens Helpers Go! Aug 1-2, Navigating Nature. Take on the role of a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition sent on a journey to document the landscape, plants, and animals of the area while learning the basics of navigation. You will be equipped with a clipboard, field journal, field map, compass, and pencils. Conclude your work by sending your findings to the president as the men of the expedition did before departing Fort Mandan.

Aug 3-7, Lost in Translation: The Interpreter’s Game. Learn how complicated communication was for the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

“Move It or Lose It,” an Adult Mobility Class @ Bismarck Veterans Memorial Library

Bismarck Veterans Memorial Library invites you to “Move It or Lose It,” an Adult Mobility Class.  A 60-minute session from 10 to 11 a.m. on several upcoming Fridays is designed to get your body moving in a safe and enjoyable environment.  Led by experienced instructors from Northern Plains Dance, this class aims to foster trust and confidence.  Explore movement while enhancing your mobility, posture, balance, and gait. Incorporating dance elements into corrective exercises, it is open to anyone with limited mobility or balance challenges, helping you find joy and strength in every movement.  Classes are at the library, 515 N 5th Street, August 28 through September 18, and October 9 through 30.

 Embark on a hands-on adventure at Fort Mandan State Historic Site, 838 – 28th Ave SW, Washburn.  Enjoy free interactive learning programs for all ages.  Learn new skills and create hands-on projects centered on the themes of agriculture and ecology. Programs are offered at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m.

Aug. 31-Sept. 4, Farming on the Northern Great Plains. Discover the rich agricultural heritage along the Missouri River, from Indigenous gardens to modern-day agricultural practices.
